This Ford commercial is an excellent response to the Cadillac commercial that answers the question "Why do we work so hard?" with "so we can buy a Cadillac." The Cadillac commercial paints Americans as entitled consumers. And while the Ford commercial really does the same thing, I think it is a brilliant response that will actually sell more cars.
I know this has been posted on the FP, but if you're anything like me you might have missed it.

When the Cadillac version originally aired, I felt a disturbance in the force. As if a million jimmies were being rustled simultaneously and then, suddenly, were silenced.
I like the Cadillac version better.

I just imagine someone from another country watching that Cadillac commercial and it disgusts me. I think it paints a pretty gross version of America (although true for some people, no doubt). I love cars and I want to be able to own nice cars, but my entire purpose in life isn't to make sure everyone can see my success by the car I drive. This isn't the 50's. Of course the Ford commercial is doing the exact same thing by going with the whole I help the world, I drive an electric car thing. The difference is that "green cars" are trendy right now and blatant consumerism isn't, so I think Ford wins.

The ford commercial is too green movement. The Cadillac commercial pretty much says America works hard for what they want, and they build a car that people want to work hard for.

After decades of hearing how the rest of the world hates us and looks down on us, I simply don't give a fuck anymore. I'd never buy an ELR because a gussied up Volt isn't my thing, but if that commercial gets some European panties in a twist, so be it.
